Packaging
Yum Restaurants, as a signatory of the Australian Packaging Covenant, have prepared this action plan outlining our commitment to the covenant. We will continue to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging and in parallel commit to building a recycling programme which will be in operation in all our stores by 2015.
This Action Plan is designed to ensure that Yum consistently evaluates packaging design, embedding sustainable packaging guideline into all our processes and new product development. Regular reviews will be carried out to ensure that we use the maximum recycled content or renewable raw materials for both consumer and distribution packaging.
Yum will continue to encourage our suppliers to reduce their environmental impact whilst manufacturing and supplying both KFC and Pizza Hut items. The plan will highlight significant opportunities to improve our packaging design in the future.
Yum will continue to lead the QSR market with an aggressive roll out of our recycling strategy capturing all in-store waste as well as head office, we plan to recycle 80% of all waste collected from all stores. We will review the opportunity to buy recycled material across our organization which could fundamentally change the way we procure office and marketing materials.
Better education will be given to our consumers to help them understand how to dispose of and recycle our packaging at home. This along with litter patrols and focus at a restaurant level will help us reduce the amount of KFC consumer packaging found in the litter stream.
Yum! and our franchisees look forward to even greater environmental results for 2010 - 2015.
